Why is tree identification important?

Right now you're probably thinking "Sure, being able to identify trees is kinda cool but what's the point?". Well, the art of tree identification is not only one of contemporary status but something that our ancient ancestors utilized also. The earliest arborists were those who could see which trees would bear food, which trees were good for burning and which were good for building. Nowadays, people identify trees not only for self-interest, but also as a way of conservation. Monitoring the populations of different species of trees is extremely important and it is also vital to know if any invasive species have take root in an area.
